"INSTRUMENT AND IMPROVISATION" INTERNSHIP
Presentation of the course
The CMDL’s team of reference teachers welcomes trainees for an immersive week-long course entitled “The Instrument and Improvisation.” This course allows participants to discover improvisation or perfect their practice, consolidate rhythmic, harmonic, and melodic concepts (improvisation, interpretation), and assimilate a new working method specific to jazz.

Organization of the course
This course takes place during the first week of the spring break (zone C).
In 2026: April 20-24, 2026
The course lasts 5 days (33 hours), from Monday to Friday. A jam session is organized on Thursday evening and a concert open to the public takes place on Friday afternoon at the end of the course.
To apply for the course, candidates must:
- Be at least 18 years old.
- Have at least 7 years of instrumental experience.
EXCEPTIONS MAY BE MADE. Please complete the request form when registering online.

- Links to view your video recordings (minimum as a trio): your interpretation of two pieces of your choice
The cost of the internship is €1,200, including lunch.
If you are financing your internship yourself, without the help of an external organization, the CMDL will support you by reducing the fees.
The cost will then be €750.
Internship financing options
Although this internship is not eligible for CPF (Personal Training Account) funding, various professional training financing options may be available depending on the intern’s personal situation (performing artist, artist-author, job seeker, or other). We invite you to inquire directly with AFDAS or the OPCO your employer depends on. You can also contact your regional authority or France Travail advisor.

A unique opportunity at CMDL! Thanks to the ADAMI scholarship, artists who have accumulated 15 gigs in 3 years can benefit from funding for immersive training (“The Instrument and Improvisation”) dedicated to jazz. The registration deadline is January 15, 2025. If you meet the criteria, you have until that date to submit your application. Places are limited, so we strongly advise you to prepare and submit your application without delay.
