The CMDL in Mongolia for an international exchange
From 1 to 15 July 2026, Mongolia hosted the annual meeting of the International Association of Schools of Jazz (IASJ) for the first time in Asia. On this occasion, a delegation from the Centre des Musiques Didier Lockwood (CMDL), comprising members of the administrative team and a student, travelled to Ulaanbaatar to take part in several days of international exchanges centred on jazz.
For five days, André Charlier, Chantal Charlier and Malo Athouël represented the CMDL at this gathering, which brought together around 120 students, teachers and artists from all over the world.
Five Days of Jazz and International Exchange
Organised locally by the JazzLab association, in collaboration with the Mongolian State Conservatory and other partners, the event offered participants a rich programme of encounters and musical activities.
The programme included international workshops, jam sessions, ensembles bringing together students from different countries, and concerts open to the public. Activities took place notably at the Fat Cat Jazz Club, a central venue for the gathering, as well as at several other cultural venues across Ulaanbaatar.
For the CMDL, taking part in this event was an opportunity to strengthen its ties with the international network of jazz schools and share its experience with musicians and educators from around the world.
A musical, human and cultural experience that once again highlights the importance of international exchanges in students’ journeys and in the development of the CMDL.
