State Diploma for Music Professionals (level 6)

Initial and contineous course

DNSPM training at CMDL allows:

  • Provide a working method to master instrumental technique and acquire a real artistic dimension
  • Develop individual creativity and personal projects
  • Acquire jazz culture and knowledge of jazz styles by consolidating rhythmic, harmonic and melodic concepts (improvisations, interpretations)
  • Empower and adapt to all work situations

 

DNSPM training leads to three degrees:

Le DNSPM Jazz – Diplôme National Supérieur Professionnel de Musicien – Jazz et musiques improvisées
Issued by the Pôle Supérieur Paris Boulogne Billancourt (PSPBB), the DNSPM is an undergraduate degree in graduate studies enrolled in the national directory of professional certifications at level 6 (Bac+3), recognized by the Ministry of Culture and Communication. It is backed by a degree in musicology.

 

CAUTION: THIS DEGREE WILL NOT BE AVAILABLE IN YEAR 2024-2025.

 

The Musicology License
The student in DNSPM follows his training at the CMDL and at the University of Evry Val d’Essonne to obtain his musicology license. He thus acquired a first university level of knowledge and skills in jazz and improvised music. He strengthens his general culture and his mastery of information and communication technologies. The degree level allows a continuation of studies in master.

CMDL Diploma
The Didier Lockwood Music Center awards the CMDL diploma to trainees who have obtained a general grade higher than 70% in exams, it certifies a high level of mastery in jazz and improvised music.

 

+ OPTION: DE (State Diploma of Music Teacher)

If selected in their application, the selected candidate will be able to enter the ED entry competition. If he obtains it, he will follow in parallel with the DNSPM curriculum, a complementary pedagogical training leading to the DE of music teacher. Learn more >>>

The training takes place over three consecutive academic years (September to June), each of 30 calendar weeks, divided into six semesters.

 

The DNSPM student is enrolled in three institutions:

  • the CMDL, where he receives almost all of his teachings, three days a week (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday).
  • PSPBB, for obtaining DNSPM, as well as for following common modules
  • Université d’Évry Val d’Essonne, where he takes courses one day a week (Wednesday) for his Musicology degree

The student follows the teachings of the CMDL, those of the University of Evry Val d’Essonne as well as the common modules with the PSPBB.

Training content:

The overall content of the training is organized in the following way, divided evenly between practical, theoretical, cultural and methodological courses:

At CMDL – 3 days a week (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday)
Instrument, deciphering / Ear / Rhythm / Harmony / Writing, composition and arrangement / Ensemble repertoire jazz / Ensemble repertoire originaux / Ensemble repertoire «esthétique» / Big band / Sonorisation / Informatique Musicale / Studio / Histoire du Jazz / Connaissance de l’environnement professionnel / Master-class / concerts / …

Evry Val d’Essonne University – 1 day a week (Wednesday)

DNSPM training allows:

  • Access to the contest (IUFM, Capes, Aggregation …)
  • Further study in higher education (Master, PhD …)
  • Entering the life of a professional musician

To enter the DNSPM entry-level competition in initial training, the candidate must:

  • Hold a National Musician Career Path Diploma (DNOP) JAZZ or a Musical Studies Diploma (DEM) JAZZ.*
  • Hold a baccalaureate degree or a French or foreign diploma accepted as a dispensation or equivalent. **
  • Must be at least 26 years of age (December 31st of the school year)**
  • Have not been away from school for more than 2 years.

 

*POSSIBLE OVERRIDE, request to complete when registering online. If you are not registered in CPES or if you do not validate your DEM Jazz in June 2021, you will also be asked to provide links to watch video recordings, so that your level is assessed. On these videos, you will have to play (in trio minimum): 1 free track and a track chosen from the list of 10 imposed tracks.

**OVERRIDE POSSIBLE, request to complete when registering online.

The CMDL applies similar tuition fees to French higher education centres.

 

The cost of the training (initial training) is as follows:

  • 100€ CMDL registration
  • about 450€ PSPBB registration fee
  • about 170€ euros registration at the University of Evry Val d’Essonne
  • about 95€ euros from CVEC (Student Life and Campus Contribution)

About 860€ per year.

If you have limited resources, you may be entitled to a grant, assistance to finance your education (initial training).

The aid is awarded on the basis of three criteria: the income of the tax household, the number of tax-dependent children of the family and the distance from the place of study. 1 Curriculum Vitae, detailing your general education and previous musical history (discipline, institution, year, level(s) achieved, award(s) obtained)

The scores of the 2 free songs, for the rhythm section (double bass, drums and piano and two scores for the jury), written with music score software (2 pages max.)

Payment of the entry fee of 70 euros, by cheque or bank transfer.

Additional Materials for Continuing Education Candidates:

Proof of the conditions for entry into continuing education: attach your employment or entertainment certificates for the last 2 years.

AS APPROPRIATE TO SPECIFIC CASES AND PREVIOUS ROUTES

An academic certificate from your institution for the current year, if the baccalaureate (or equivalent) is expected in 2022,

A copy of the Baccalaureate,

A copy of the transcript of the validated semesters, if higher education is in progress,

A copy of the graduate degree,

A copy of the DEM Jazz or DNOP Jazz,

Viewing links of your video recordings (in trio minimum): your interpretation of one of the ten imposed themes and a piece of your choice, if no jazz DEM or jazz DNOP (not necessary if you are registered in CPES or if you pass your DEM in June 2022),

  • An academic certificate from your institution with details of the courses taken, if you are enrolled in CPES or if you spend your DEM this year,
  • A copy of the certificate of acquisition of UV and UV to be acquired for obtaining DEM Jazz in 2021,
  • A copy of the certificate of achievement or education for all other musical training,

 

FOR FOREIGN APPLICANTS

  • 1 copy of the Foreign Higher Education Access Diploma (with sworn translation)
  • 1 copy of the foreign higher education diploma (with sworn translation)
  • 1 copy of the diploma or graduation certificate for any foreign musical diploma (with sworn translation)
  • 1 University PAD Application Receipt (Non-EU Foreign Applicants Only)
  • 1 Certificate of Comparability for a Foreign Degree from ENIC NARIC France
  • 1 Certificate of recognition of study and/or training abroad issued by ENIC NARIC France

LIST OF THE 10 IMPOSED PIECES

The candidates invited to the admission tests will be subjected to the test «interpretation of standard without partition». On D-Day, each candidate will have to interpret without score the piece chosen by the jury, among the list of 10 imposed themes. He will be accompanied exclusively by the CMDL’s escorts, without any rehearsals beforehand.

 

De plus, le candidat qui n’a pas de DEM Jazz ou DNOP Jazz et qui formule une demande de dérogation lors de son inscription en ligne, devra fournir des liens de visionnage de captations vidéo. Le candidat devra sur ces vidéos, jouer (en trio minimum) 1 morceau libre, ainsi qu’un morceau choisi parmi la liste des 10 morceaux imposés.
